Guidance

Guidance is a second pair of eyes, not a replacement for a proper satnav. Set the destination before you move off, mount the phone, and keep listening rather than looking.

Start begins the trip meter and the clock. Pause holds both without ending the trip. Stop ends it and leaves the reading on screen, so you can log it or reset the meter back to zero.

    What to save

Pick what to save and the size appears here before anything downloads.

Saved tiles keep the map drawing with no signal. Fresh address search and turn-by-turn still need a connection; with none, the address fields fall back to places already in your logbook.

        Area to save

Used by the "an area" mode: whatever this map shows is what downloads.

        Preferences

Auto-stop ends the recording and keeps the reading on screen — nothing is logged until you say so. It cannot start a trip by itself: no browser is allowed to watch GPS while closed.

        Named places

One-tap addresses for the places you actually drive: home, the shop, regular clients. Marking one as Home and one as Work lets the app spot commutes, which are not deductible.

          Deduction rates

Rates are per category and effective-dated, because the IRS changes them — 2026 split mid-year (business 72.5¢ then 76¢ from July 1). Every trip is valued at the rate in force on its date. The table ships with the published IRS figures; verify against irs.gov each January.

          Your data

Everything is stored on the machine running this server, under your account. The exports are plain CSV that any spreadsheet or accountant can open.

The PDF covers the vehicle and tax year picked at the top of the screen: odometer readings, totals and deductions by category at the correct split-year rates, every trip, any odometer photos, and a signature line.

          0.0mi 0melapsed —speed

Everything lives in data/db.json on this machine. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Addresses and routes come from OpenStreetMap services. Distances are a record of what you drove, not tax advice.

          Log this trip

This looks like a commute — home to your regular workplace, or back. The IRS does not allow commuting as a business deduction. If that is what this trip was, set the category to Commute; it stays in the log honestly at $0.

              Vehicle details

Year-start and year-end odometer readings are entered on the vehicle card, one pair per tax year.
